Janet has been teaching for 30 years and currently is assistant professor of English at Western Michigan University.

She wrote How the Moon Regained Her Shape to bring awareness to bullying, The Sun chases the Moon from the sky and when she comes down to earth she finds friends who love her and she learns to not let the Sun bully her around. 

The publisher has inserted an easy science lesson about the phases of the Moon in the back of the book.

How the Moon Regained Her Shape has won several awards: 2006 Society of Illustrators' Original Art and Book Sense Summer Children's Pick, the 2007 IRA-CBC Children's Choices, PMA Benjamin Franklin Award, and a Gold Medal in the Moonbeam Children's Book Awards.
